Dolphin Dash is a 5k run/walk created by Amanda Hausmann. Dolphin Dash 2015 will be the first year of Dolphin Dash. Dolphin Dash was created to raise awareness about an organization called The Dolphin Project. The Dolphin Project was created by Ric O'Barry in order to bring attention to the horrors of animal captivity, specifically that of dolphins and whales. Every year in Taiji, Japan, dolphins are herded into a cove by Japanese fisherman where dolphin trainers from around the world come to choose dolphins they would like in their aquariums. The hundreds of other dolphins that are not chosen for a life in captivity are brutally slaughtered and used for meat. This abuse to animals is extremely horrific, but for any wild animal, being kidnapped and forced into a life of captivity is just as horrifying. The goal of this run is to raise awareness about animal captivity and hopefully to gain more supporters for ending the slaughtering of dolphins in Taiji, Japan, along with other anti-captivity campaigns.
